2016-05-10don't show NO_PUBKEY warning if repo is signed by another keyDavid Kalnischkies
Daniel Kahn Gillmor highlights in the bugreport that security isn't improving by having the user import additional keys – especially as importing keys securely is hard. The bugreport was initially about dropping the warning to a notice, but in given the previously mentioned observation and the fact that we weren't printing a warning (or a notice) for expired or revoked keys providing a signature we drop it completely as the code to display a message if this was the only key is in another path – and is considered critical. Closes: 618445 (Backported from commit fb7b11ebb852fa255053ecab605bc9cfe9de0603)
2016-03-28Allow lowering trust level of a hash via configJulian Andres Klode
Introduces APT::Hashes::<NAME> with entries Untrusted and Weak which can be set to true to cause the hash to be treated as untrusted and/or weak.
2016-03-22handle gpgv's weak-digests ERRSIGDavid Kalnischkies
Our own gpgv method can declare a digest algorithm as untrusted and handles these as worthless signatures. If gpgv comes with inbuilt untrusted (which is called weak in official terminology) which it e.g. does for MD5 in recent versions we should handle it in the same way. To check this we use the most uncommon still fully trusted hash as a configureable one via a hidden config option to toggle through all of the three states a hash can be in.
2016-03-21properly check for "all good sigs are weak"David Kalnischkies
Using erase(pos) is invalid in our case here as pos must be a valid and derefenceable iterator, which isn't the case for an end-iterator (like if we had no good signature). The problem runs deeper still through as VALIDSIG is a keyid while GOODSIG is just a longid so comparing them will always fail. Closes: 818910
2015-12-19tests: support spaces in path and TMPDIRDavid Kalnischkies
This doesn't allow all tests to run cleanly, but it at least allows to write tests which could run successfully in such environments. Git-Dch: Ignore
2015-09-15tests: don't use hardcoded port for http and httpsDavid Kalnischkies
This allows running tests in parallel. Git-Dch: Ignore
2015-09-14tests: try to support spaces in TMPDIRDavid Kalnischkies
Not all tests work yet, most notable the cdrom tests, but those require changes in libapt itself to have a proper fix and what we have fixed so far is good enough progress for now. Git-Dch: Ignore

2015-08-14Replace --force-yes by various options starting with --allowJulian Andres Klode
This enables more fine grained control over such exceptions.
2015-08-10show or-groups in not-installed recommends and suggests listsDavid Kalnischkies
Further abstracting our new ShowList allows to use it for containers of strings as well giving us the option to implement an or-groups display for the recommends and suggests lists which is a nice trick given that it also helps with migrating the last remaining other cases of old ShowList.
2015-08-10implement Signed-By without using gpg for verificationDavid Kalnischkies
The previous commit returns to the possibility of using just gpgv for verification proposes. There is one problem through: We can't enforce a specific keyid without using gpg, but our acquire method can as it parses gpgv output anyway, so it can deal with good signatures from not expected signatures and treats them as unknown keys instead. 2015-08-10implement Signed-By option for sources.listDavid Kalnischkies
Limits which key(s) can be used to sign a repository. Not immensely useful from a security perspective all by itself, but if the user has additional measures in place to confine a repository (like pinning) an attacker who gets the key for such a repository is limited to its potential and can't use the key to sign its attacks for an other (maybe less limited) repository… (yes, this is as weak as it sounds, but having the capability might come in handy for implementing other stuff later).
2015-06-11show URI.Path in all acquire item descriptionsDavid Kalnischkies
It is a rather strange sight that index items use SiteOnly which strips the Path, while e.g. deb files are downloaded with NoUserPassword which does not. Important to note here is that for the file transport Path is pretty important as there is no Host which would be displayed by Site, which always resulted in "interesting" unspecific errors for "file:". Adding a 'middle' ground between the two which does show the Path but potentially modifies it (it strips a pending / at the end if existing) solves this "file:" issue, syncs the output and in the end helps to identify which file is meant exactly in progress output and co as a single site can have multiple repositories in different paths.
2015-05-18treat older Release files than we already have as an IMSHitDavid Kalnischkies
Valid-Until protects us from long-living downgrade attacks, but not all repositories have it and an attacker could still use older but still valid files to downgrade us. While this makes it sounds like a security improvement now, its a bit theoretical at best as an attacker with capabilities to pull this off could just as well always keep us days (but in the valid period) behind and always knows which state we have, as we tell him with the If-Modified-Since header. This is also why this is 'silently' ignored and treated as an IMSHit rather than screamed at the user as this can at best be an annoyance for attackers. An error here would 'regularily' be encountered by users by out-of-sync mirrors serving a single run (e.g. load balancer) or in two consecutive runs on the other hand, so it would just help teaching people ignore it. That said, most of the code churn is caused by enforcing this additional requirement. Crisscross from InRelease to Release.gpg is e.g. very unlikely in practice, but if we would ignore it an attacker could sidestep it this way.
2015-03-16test exitcode as well as string equalityDavid Kalnischkies
We use test{success, failure} now all over the place in the framework, so its only consequencial to do this in the situations in which we test for a specific output as well. Git-Dch: Ignore

2013-11-30tests: add a webserverconfig method to abstract configDavid Kalnischkies
The URI to use to set a config option is a bit arcane to write/remember and checking if the setting was successful doubly so. Git-Dch: Ignore
2013-10-01retry without partial data after a 416 responseDavid Kalnischkies
If we get a 416 from the server it means the Range we asked for is above the real filesize of the file on the server. Mostly this happens if the server isn't supporting If-Range, but regardless of how we end up with the partial data, the data is invalid so we discard it and retry with a fresh plate and hope for the best. Old behavior was to consider 416 an error and retry with a different compression until we ran out of compression and requested the uncompressed file (which doesn't exist on most mirrors) with an accept line which server answered with "406 Not Acceptable". Closes: 710924
2013-08-28configurable compression for testcasesDavid Kalnischkies
Compressing files in 4 different styles eats test-time for no practical gain if we don't test them explicitly, so default to just building 'gz' compressed files as it is the simplest compression algorithm supported Git-Dch: Ignore
2013-08-12test Release file handling with expired keysDavid Kalnischkies
Signing files with expired keys is not as easy as it sounds, so the framework jumps a few loops to do it, but it might come in handy to have an expired key around for later tests even if it is not that different from having no key in regards to APT behaviour. Git-Dch: Ignore
2013-06-24simple fork and pidfile aptwebserverDavid Kalnischkies
Forking only after being ready to accept clients avoids running races with the tests which sometimes failed on the first 'apt-get update' (or similar) with the previous background-start and hope for the best… The commit fixes also some oversight output-order changes in regards to Description-md5 and (I-M-S) race conditions in various tests.
